Dear Neighbours,

We are now at the halfway point of our site preparation work in Crescent Bay. Since July, our team has completed tree clearing and demolition, and we are safely progressing through excavation and controlled blasting.

We want to provide you with an update on what has been completed, what’s ahead and what it means for our community.

Work To Date

- Tree clearing and demolition of older buildings are complete.

- Pre-blast home surveys have been completed with neighbours closest to the site and seismic monitors are in place.

- Excavation and controlled blasting are ongoing, with all work completed with the required safety permits.

- Blasts have occurred safely and on schedule, with short traffic holds on Highway 3A lasting only a few minutes each time.

What’s Next

Over the next couple of weeks, crews will complete the main phase of blasting and excavation. Towards the end of this period, noise levels are expected to lessen gradually.

Once bulk blasting and excavation are finished, crews will shift to detailed blasting as final preparations are made for the building foundation and civil services. This stage is shorter and generally less disruptive, as it focuses on removing smaller sections of rock. At the same time, you may notice more truck traffic as structural fill material is brought onto the site. This is a crucial step in preparing the foundation and marks visible progress toward the next stage of construction. We will continue to coordinate traffic and site activity carefully to minimize the impact on the community during this stage.

By late September, blasting activities will taper off and crews will begin preparing the foundation and installing civil services. Some rock hammer work will continue into October for fine adjustments, though it will not be as consistent as the heavier work happening now. Septic installation will also take place as part of the next stages, with timing guided by the project’s engineers.

Why This Matters

This project is about more than construction – it’s about our community. By moving carefully through this work, we’re preparing for future opportunities that will create local jobs, support area businesses and ensure Spearhead can continue building with care and purpose right here in Nelson. We remain committed to carrying out this project safely and respectfully, and to keeping you informed throughout the process.

Thankyou for the ongoing support. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Ben Hall
