Dear Residents and Community Members,
As you are aware, Spearhead has received approval for rezoning our properties from the Region District of Central Kootenays. We are growing – carefully, and with purpose. This new phase of Spearhead will enable us to expand our capacity to take on more projects, support local trades, and continue evolving with the community at its heart.
The approved rezoning allows us to begin the Spearhead Expansion Project of our facility onto the additional properties Spearhead owns. Spearhead approaches every project by demonstrating our core values as thoughtful builders who maintain deep roots in the community, while upholding our commitment to proper work methods.
We would like to inform you that we are beginning the first stage of the Project beginning Wednesday, July 2, 2025. We recognize that construction activities will cause disruption; however, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure respectful and safe process.
The Project is being delivered by local company Kays Contracting. The first stage of the work will begin tree removal and demolition work at 4643 Highway 3A. This is the new address of the three lots which were amalgamated after rezoning. The tree removal is as limited as possible, and we have worked closely with the RDCK, the arborists, and our general contractor to ensure all areas to remain are clearly marked and protected in advance.
As part of these operations, there will be increased truck activity as well as the use of heavy machinery on the site, often moving debris off site to appropriate and approved recycling and disposal locations.
We aim to carry out this work as efficiently and as possible, with minimal disruption to the surrounding community, meeting and exceeding all safety requirements.
Key Details:
- Start of Tree Removal: Wednesday, July 2, 2025
- Start of Demolition: Monday, July 7, 2025
- Work Hours: Monday – Saturday (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), with Sundays (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM) as needed
- Truck Activity: Expect regular movement of construction vehicles, including dump trucks and excavators. Heavy truck activity on Starlight Road will be minimized as much as possible.
- Blasting: Blasting will occur from approximately July 21st to September 15th twice daily, at approximately 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. As a result, we will also be halting traffic on the highway for brief periods to ensure the safety of the community and the crews. These closures will only be for a matter of minutes each time and planned in coordination with MoTT.
Environmental, Indigenous Respect and Safety Measures:
- Traffic management will be in place at a number of locations to ensure safe traffic flow.
- All works will comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Site personnel will monitor access points and manage noise and dust as required.
- Dedicated dust suppression and wildfire prevention measures.
- Marked signage, fencing, and professional blasting signals.
- Cultural monitoring by Indigenous partners and ongoing environmental checks.
We understand that construction work can cause temporary inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important phase of the project.
This project is making it possible for us to keep doing what we love, right here in Crescent Bay. It means more jobs. More good design. More spaces built with intention. And most importantly, continued roots in the community we are so proud of.
We appreciate your understanding and support throughout this process. We will continue to share information with you to ensure the continued support of our community and partners during the construction phase.
