Spearhead Expansion
We've created this space to keep our neighbours informed with up-to-date announcements, schedules, and construction progress throughout the project.

About the project
This project marks a significant milestone for our company, our community, and our province. It reflects our ambition to lead progressive change in the North American mass timber sector by developing hyper-local supply chains, promoting truly sustainable forestry practices, and showcasing the full potential of value-added timber fabrication stemming from British Columbia.
The new facility will enhance our ability to compete in world-class projects, thus further positioning Nelson as a hub of innovation in advanced timber engineering and fabrication. Having operated at our current location at 4655 Hwy 3A for over 25 years, we feel a deep connection to this neighbourhood where we live and work, and we will continue to listen, engage, and collaborate with our neighbours as we continue to evolve and grow as a company.

FAQs
What is happening at the Spearhead site this summer?
Spearhead is preparing the lots adjacent to our property in Crescent Bay for the expansion of our current site. This includes tree clearing, demolition of old buildings, excavation and controlled blasting. All activities are being conducted in accordance with safety and environmental regulations and are overseen by professional crews. This project represents an exciting step forward in supporting local job creation and intentional, community-rooted growth.
When will demolition and blasting take place?
Demolition of the old buildings began on July 2, 2025. We anticipate starting to excavate and drill on July 21, 2025. Work on the site will be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. Work may happen on Sundays as needed and would occur between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Blasting will begin Wednesday, July 23, 2025 and happen twice daily, at approximately 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Times may vary slightly based on weather or safety needs. Residents will be notified should any changes need to happen.
How will I be notified of blasting?
Blasting notices will be sent out 72 hours before the start of blasting, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. In addition to the notices, signage will be placed in all areas that may experience disruption from the blasting 48 hours prior to blasting beginning. When blasting activities are to commence, the following signals are used: • Before blasting 12 short horn blasts will sound two minutes before blasting occurs • After the blaster has cleared the blast there will be one horn blast for approximately five seconds • Blasting will not resume until you have heard the 12 short horn blasts again
Is blasting expected to be loud or disruptive?
We understand that the vibrations and sounds generated by blasting and drilling operations may cause concern in the community. Rock blasting activities naturally produce ground vibrations, which are being measured using a seismic monitor. Blasting vibrations are engineered to remain within safe thresholds and are comparable to those generated by thunder, large trucks or trains passing nearby.
Is blasting safe?
Yes. Blasting is designed to be safe and controlled. Blasts will be carried out by licensed experts from McCaw’s Drilling & Blasting Ltd. using detailed and safety-focused procedures that meet WorkSafe BC standards.
Will roads or trails be closed?
Some trail access points located on the property to Kokanee Creek Provincial Park will be closed during this project. These trail points will be marked. Additionally, Starlight Road past Crescent View Drive will be accessible to residents only for the duration of the project. There will also be temporary traffic holds along Highway 3A around the time of each blast, lasting between 2-5 minutes. We apologize for any inconvenience these closures may cause. We are taking these actions to ensure the safety of the community.
Has this work been approved?
Yes. The rezoning and demolition permits have been secured from the Regional District of Central Kootenay, and all blasting work is permitted under oversight by WorkSafe BC and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
How is this project benefiting the community?
This expansion is allowing Spearhead Innovations Inc. to: • Create stable, skilled local jobs • Develop community-oriented spaces designed with care • Maintain our commitment to local growth and sustainable practices
How long will the demolition and blasting take?
Site work is expected to continue through September 2025.

Are you consulting with Indigenous groups?
Cultural monitoring by Indigenous partners and ongoing environmental checks are in place.
How will you manage safety measures?
Traffic management will be in place at a number of locations to ensure safe traffic flow. All works will comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Site personnel will monitor access points and manage noise and dust as required. Dedicated dust suppression and wildfire prevention measures. Marked signage, fencing, and professional blasting signals. We aim to carry out this work as efficiently and as possible, with minimal disruption to the surrounding community, meeting and exceeding all safety requirements.
What are the working hours?
Monday – Saturday (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), with Sundays (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM) as needed
How long will blasting last?
Blasting will occur from approximately July 21st to September 15th twice daily, at approximately 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (times may vary slightly based on weather or safety needs). As a result, we will also be halting traffic on the highway for brief periods to ensure the safety of the community and the crews. These closures will only be for a matter of minutes each time and planned in coordination with MoTT.
